When plain old whacking works!!!

Posted by tggokul on June 27, 2008

I am a firm believer that machines are becoming more like people because of the amount of interactions that take place between Humans and machines has become multi-fold. OK, I accept I sound like a nut. But check this out.

MY four month old DSC-T70 Sony Digital Camera, started giving me some problems. Whenever I switched on the camera, I got the error E:61:00 and I couldn’t take pictures at all. There was no mention of that in the Manual other than the fact that it was an “out of focus” error and has to be given for servicing. I decided to see what others though about this problem and I reached this site.

The fix for this problem was a simple giving a whack to the camera. I honestly thought this was a prank being played but their seemed to alteast 50-60 people who seemed to have done it. I decided to try it out ( since it was anyway under warranty) and couple of smacks later (whacked it on the back of a book), the error went away and it as good as new!! In fact it could be my imagination. I think the clarity is better as well!!

Now you tell me, aren’t machines becoming more like humans?

  2. Without humans, machines doesn’t work at all. To do work simple and easier way man made machines. There is no chance for the machines to become more like humans. Some machines have brain but they are controlled by humans alone.

It will happen naturally that the machines will create some problems when we are going to use.It is better to give to service when the problem is created, ofcourse sometimes it will recover automatically.

I don’t agree with you. The problem you faced was not a common problem with every technical machine. It occured with your Sony Digital Camera model, as you mentioned it was seen by the 50 -60 others. In my suggestion you would have informed the company about the same problem for servicing, that would have seen rectification for ever.

Machines learns games like a Human. For example,A computer that learns to play a scissors, paper and stone.another one is CogVis.It teaches itself how to play the children’s game by searching for patterns in video and audio of human players.

Your feeling was very good I like your attitude. If your camera was not working your better to go to shop and show your warranty card and get better service from the manufacturer. This is my idea.It is optional not obligation.

My opinion is that always humanbeings are better than machines because the machines are made my human beings only. And its the mitake done by human being during manufacturing it.So better take that camera for repair.
